Kanopy Access

Overview/Introduction

Kanopy is one of the library's streaming video platforms, featuring access to select documentaries, feature films, and classic cinema.  The library currently licenses films through Kanopy on an individual basis and does not subscribe to the complete collection of films on this platform.

The primary access/authentication method used for Kanopy is IP authentication, which means the platform will check the IP address of your computer and, if you're on campus, will grant you access to the available films without having to sign-in or take additional measures.  Kanopy can be accessed directly (https://ursinus.kanopy.com/), via the link posted on the library's Databases A-Z page (https://libguides.ursinus.edu/az.php), or by following the link to an individual film located in the library's OneSearch catalog.

When a person is off-campus, however, they do need to sign-in via the library's EZproxy system in order to access Kanopy. The platform will detect that you are off-campus and will present the EZproxy sign-in page before allowing you to move forward.  EZproxy uses the same Ursinus credentials as other college systems, such as Canvas, webmail, and Office 365:

After you enter your Ursinus credentials, you will be forwarded to https://ursinus.kanopy.com.  At this point you may be presented with another Kanopy login screen that asks you to "Log in to Ursinus":

Click on the orange login button and the one that may appear on the subsequent page.  You shouldn't have to enter your credentials again (just click on the buttons), and eventually you'll land on the Kanopy home screen:

As an option, you can also create a personal Kanopy account that would let you save videos to a watchlist to view later, create clips and playlists, and access Kanopy via mobile apps rather than logging into the desktop version on your computer.  This Kanopy account is optional and would use either your Google or Facebook credentials or an email address/password combination that you create.  Additional details on the personal Kanopy account are found here:  https://help.kanopy.com/en-us/4213.htm.  Below is an image of the account creation screen:

Note:  this screen may also be shown to you at other stages of trying to access a film on Kanopy's platform. If you do not wish to create an account, you can hit the SKIP button at the bottom of the page and bypass this screen.
