Overview/Introduction

Enable live closed captions in Zoom Meetings or Webinar. The host who scheduled the Zoom Meeting must have captioning enabled in their Zoom portal settings.

Details

Verify CC and change settings as needed in Zoom web portal

  1. Sign in to the Ursinus Zoom Web Portal 
  2. In the navigation panel, click Settings.
  3. Navigate to the "In Meeting (Advanced)" settings.
  4. There are three options are available:
    • Verify that Manual Captions are enabled if you want to allow for the host to type closed captions or assign a 3rd party service. 
    • Verify that Automated Captions are enabled if you want to allow users to see captions auto-generated in meetings.
    • Verify that Full Transcript is enabled if you want to allow viewing of the transcript for captioning in the side panel of the meeting. 
  5. If the setting is disabled, click the toggle to enable it. If a verification dialog displays, click Enable to verify the change.
  6. With Manual Captions enabled, the options to enable live transcription should appear directly below as Allow host to type or assign a participant to type and Allow use of caption API Token to integrate with 3rd-party Closed Captioning servicesCheck these boxes to enable live manual transcription.


 

Starting Closed Captions or live Transcript in a meeting

1.  In a Zoom Meeting or Webinar that you are hosting, click "Show Captions" or Live Transcript, if that feature is enabled.

2.  Once "Show Captions" is clicked, the button changes to say "Hide Captions" indicating that Live Transcription is enabled and the system will start providing live transcription. "Live Transcript ON" will also flash as an indicator. Participants will be notified that this service is available.

3. Click "Set up manual captioner..." if this option is desired or if configuration to 3rd-party captioning is desired.  This option provides you the opportunity to assign someone to serve as the manual captioner if you, as host, do not wish to do it:
