Moving your videos from Panopto to OneDrive/Clipchamp

If you want to keep using your current Panopto recordings, you will need to move them into OneDrive.

  • For each video you want to reuse:
    • First, check that the content of the recording is still relevant and up to date. For example, it does not contain old assignment dates or out-of-date information.

 

  • There are two ways of downloading a video
    1. If you are the owner of the recording, you can click on the video to open it in the viewer and then select the download icon in the top right of the page.

 

  1. From the folder view: hover over the recording and select the Settings cog.

  1.  Select the Outputs tab and then choose Download Podcast

Archived recordings: If your recordings are archived, this means that they have not been viewed for the past 14 months. You can restore them from the archive, which can take up to 48 hours. You will be notified by email when the recording is available.  

 

 

Uploading recordings to Microsoft OneDrive/Clipchamp

You can save your video recordings the same way you would any other file. These can be saved to your personal OneDrive, a SharePoint site or Clipchamp.

Navigate to the location you wish to save and share from. For example, for your personal OneDrive, navigate to https://www.office.com/  ,sign in with your Ursinus credentials, and select OneDrive from the waffle menu in the top left.

  1. In OneDrive, select +Add new and create a new folder called Recordings.

  1. To upload your videos, you can open the Recordings folder and go to +Add new and select Files or Folder upload OR select and drag your backed-up Panopto recordings to this folder. If your computer allows it, you can select multiple and drag/drop them all in at once.
  2. Wait for all the recordings to upload.
  3. Once your videos have been uploaded and checked, you can delete them from your computer to save hard drive space.

Generating captions

When checking your videos on Microsoft Stream/Clipchamp, please click on Video settings, open Transcript, and captions, and select Generate. This will create automatic captions.

Sharing your recordings on Canvas.

  1. Navigate to the video’s folder location,
  2. Tap on the ... and select Share

  1. Next to the file name, tap on the Settings cog icon

  1. Under the Sharing options, you can choose who you want to share the recording with
    • People in Ursinus College: meaning that they will have to login to view it
    • Anyone: meaning that people will be able to view without logging in. This may include people outside of the organization
  2. Once you have chosen who you want to share it with, under More settings, choose Can view (cannot make changes)
  3. Select Apply

  1. Select the Copy link button

  1. This gives you a link that you can copy and paste into Canvas.
  2. Navigate to your Canvas page and paste in the URL

 

  • You can do this by highlighting the text and inserting an External Link.

  1. Make sure that you name the resource clearly so that your students know how to find the recordings.
  2. If you have old Panopto videos embedded or linked on the page, you will to remove these, so students do not get confused.

 

Please Note: When needing to share the link again in future, make sure to use Manage Access rather than 'Copy Link'.

  1. As an alternate method, you can select the Upload/Record Media button.

  1. Then drag or browse your computer to locate the correct file and choose the submit button.

  1. You will need to wait until the assignment is uploaded or embedded into the assignment. This method will play the video from the Canvas assignment.
