How to Access Ursinus Public Network Wi-Fi: For Guests

Overview/Introduction

For those visiting the Ursinus campus, such as family and guests, the Ursinus Public network will allow you to access the Internet on your personal devices such as laptops, cell phones, and tablets. Please read the full article to understand what must be done before attempting to connect.

  1. Access to the Ursinus Public network for guests is only available for devices able to access a web browser such as smart phones, laptops, and tablets.
  2. The guest portal will not work for devices such as game consoles, streaming sticks, and those devices unable to pull up a web browser.
  3. There is a maximum registration limit of 5 devices per email address/phone number.
  4. There is also a time limit of 3 months of access granted once a device has been registered.  After 3 months, access will be automatically revoked and you will have to re-register the device.
  5. We recommend that if your device has MAC randomization enabled to disable the feature, as it could cause some issues for the device.
  6. The process for connecting a device to the network should only be done once. If you wish to connect multiple devices (with a maximum of 5 devices per account) you will reuse the same Email and Password you received from registering the first device. When you need to connect another device, skip down to the part of this article that says How to log back into the Ursinus Public network.
  7. Hold on to the password you receive (this is how you will reconnect without filling out the form if you get disconnected). For instructions on signing back in, skip down to How to log back into the Ursinus Public network after sign out.

How to Connect to Ursinus Public (for guests)

If you are a parent, family member, guest lecturer, or other visitor to campus, you can connect your device to the Ursinus Public WiFi network by following these steps:

  1. Select Ursinus Public from your device's list of available Wi-Fi networks.

  2. A web page will pop up after with a registration form, as shown below step 3.

  3. Completely fill out the registration form with legitimate information. If you do not fill out the form completely, you will be unable to proceed further and will be prompted to fill out what information has been missed. Also, do not attempt to use multiple email addresses as this will cause issues with connecting.

Note: Using a fake telephone number and/or email address will prevent you from getting a password to use in case of disconnection from the Wi-Fi that would allow the device to reconnect to the network without filling out the registration form again. Filling out the form multiple times to regain access can cause issues as well.

  4. Once the form is complete (don't forget to click the box to confirm you have read the terms of use), hit the yellow Register button at the bottom. You will then be redirected to a page with a summary of the information you filled out.

  5. If not automatically redirected to the Ursinus College homepage within a few seconds, click the log in button at the bottom. Failure to follow this step or closing the page early before being redirected to the college homepage could result in connectivity issues.

  6. You will receive a confirmation text and email with the same information you filled out along with a unique password that you will use for all the devices you want to connect to the Ursinus Public network, with a maximum of 5 devices per account. Remember to use the same email address along with the password you are sent to login on each additional device.

  7. We also recommend you clear the browser history/cache of the web browser used to access the registration page. Apple devices have been known to experience spotty connections and spontaneously prompt users to fill out the registration form again if you don't clear your browser history and cache. If you are unsure which browser you used and have multiple browsers on your device, please clear the history/cache for each one. If you still encounter this error after clearing your browser history but have successfully registered the device to the network before, go to the next part in this article titled: How to log back into the Ursinus Public Network.

  8. You will then gain access to the Ursinus Public Network. Please enjoy your stay on our campus.

How to log back into the Ursinus Public network.

  1. Note: Disconnection from the network could happen for some of reasons listed below:
    1. The device wandered out of wireless range and thus had to reconnect, either by going between buildings or leaving the campus entirely (Wi-Fi is only available within the academic buildings/dormitories and not in the outside areas).
    2. The device has been improperly registered to the guest portal.
    3. The device's guest pass has expired (Limit is 90 days).
    4. The device's browser history needs to be cleared.
    5. The maximum number of devices per account has been reached (the maximum is 5 per account).
    6. The device does not have automatic reconnect enabled for the network it is trying to connect to.
  2. If you had already registered to the guest portal and successfully connected to the Ursinus Public network in the past but find the registration portal popping up again, find the yellow Click Here link at the bottom of the page (under the Register button) and click it. (See captive portal image above for reference). This will redirect you to the log in screen to enter the credentials you received via text and email.
  3. Enter the email address you used to register your device and the password sent to you via email/text:
